Apologies
Apologies for having to switch to registered users only for the comments from now on, but moderating comments wasn't enough, and I'm tired of the anonymous abuse I've been having to deal with of late. I'm not sure what the ramifications are, and I expect traffic will slow down a bit, but if it's a problem, email me direct. I'm just sick of it.

Andrew,
It's polite of you to do it, but in light of what you say has been happening I'd guess that none of your regulars would expect you to apologise for taking these steps. But what a gent!
I'm sure we all (not that Ive ever posted before) hope the hassle will now stop and that the blog can continue happily as before.
Andrew,
I have been an enthusiastic reader of your terrific blog but not been moved to post, until now. It is appalling that you have been receiving abuse. If a reasonable, thoughtful and even-handed blog such as yours is systemically attacked, then that is a hell of an indictment of the internet community.
Fortunately you have a very supportive band of blog-groupies, a band to which I am proud to be a new member.
Chin up.
No problems from where I'm sitting.
Didn't actually realise that registering meant I would end up with my own blog. A bit alarming. When will I ever get any work done? Is the world really ready for me to foist my opinions (let alone the dull details of my life) upon it? Will consider telling people what the address is when I've thought of something to write.
On the subject of abusive postings. You'd have thought that people who clearly have far too much time on their hands would use it more profitably - maybe reading the occasional book to help alleviate their ignorance.
Andrew,
It's for the best. You will get a better quality of comments from registered users.
Best regards,
Imran
sounds fair to me :)
Posting anonymous abuse is a rather pathetic and irritating thing to do - on a par with somebody scrawling rude words on a bus stop.
Hopefully they'll give up and go away now.
Bless you Andrew
I haven't been on here for a while - which arseholes have been giving you grief?
Do you want me sort 'em out for you?!
(In Scrappy Doo voice) "Let me at 'em! LET ME AT 'EM!"
It's disturbing how many losers have time to outpour vitriol and spite on your blog.
Don't let the bastards grind you down!!
Bummer. :( If there's anything worse than an idiot, it's an idiot with broadband.
Thankfully I've never had abusive comments in my blog - well, only the one, really, and it was actually quite funny, because it was someone failing to grasp my sense of humour. He never bothered me again.
No problem, it's a shame you have been hastled. Don't let it get to you.
Steve
When I started commenting on this blog I thought I had to set up a blogger account to post a comment.
It’s on http://mckg.blogspot.com/ if anyone fancies a look.
Anyway having had the account since last November I finally posted my first blog yesterday (mainly to see how it worked).
It is quite addictive and, yes, not as much work gets done.
At least this way we will all have more blogs to visit!
It looks like I can’t sign in as a blogger but have to sign in using my google account – but otherwise no problems - Cheers
Adding my support. You have a virtual posse. And agreeing with Gwen - blogging is entirely addictive, as is reading other people's!
Definately fair enough. Haven't read much on films and music here in a while? I have recently seen The Last King Of Scotland (impressive) and Babel (unimpressive) and enjoyed albums by The View and Klaxons and so I was wondering if you have seen/heard any of those? Cheers, Aidan
No qualms now that I have set myself up with name - thought about weak ego, or lazy and reclusive for psuedonyms but they don't exactly trip off the tongue.
Anyway AC, now that your other commitments have been fulfilled (is it the equivalent of the Scottish play where we're not allowed to use the name of the aforementioned trouble?) you can get back to watching Wire seasons 2 and 3 in readiness for the awesome season 4 which will kick all other TV into touch.
I suggest we draw a veil over the subject, as these people seem to thrive on attention. Just check the "Worst film ever" type posts on imdb.com, idiots just waiting for someone to bite so they can start an anonymous tirade.
As for getting "a better quality of response" You may be raising the bar a little high for me..but I'll try.
True Dat...
Respect to you all. Rob.
Senders of abusive e-mail who haven't the guts to put their name to it should think about how they would feel to receive it.
I'm not sure if my account works any more, so this comment is a test to find out...
Sorry you've had to go to extra lengths to get shot of this idiot. I trust that they now feel suitably important and grandiose. Must be thrilling for them.
Aiden: see above for comments on the two films. Levine: I have finished Season Two of The Wire and I'm into Three. Will do an entry soon.
Aidan, sorry!
Maybe signing up to this will be the motivation I need to get a proper blog, and not just post on myspace. This format seems much more grown up! We'll see...
Don't blame you for restricting access Andrew, some people must have very sad little lives.
I hadn't seen an episode of the Wire on January 1st - I just watched Season 4 episode 2.
This blog has ruined my life!
Bring back the birch!!
Sad to see you having to go to these lengths Andrew but it seems to be entirely necessary. Just think of all those new bloggers you'll be creating though.......
Cheers!
Andrew
It might make you feel better to know that if you click on the posters here, about half seem to have blogs started in January with nothing on them. That is, everyone has started a blog in order to comment on your site!
(Ooh, hang on, are you sure you're not on commission from Googlemail?!)
