If this book isn't out until May 3, how come I thumbed through a copy at Liverpool Street Station WHSmiths just two hours ago? I'd've bought it if I'd known.
Steve, sometimes the chains release a book early, just to beat the other chains. Interesting to hear that though - I must go and thumb though one myself. I hope it was prominently displayed!
I saw a copy of tomorrow's FHM with the top 100 ladies in today (Jessica Alba is #1.) not out tomorrow. (I just can't wait for anything any more, I definitely haven't seen 3 episodes of The Sopranos...) Only partially related I know. Looking forward to getting the book immensely Andrew.
I haven't seen it in a single shop. But then it isn't out yet. Let me know if anyone else finds it, and tell me how it's displayed! These things matter.
AC, glad I could help get your name corrected on amazon.com last year. But oh dear, I just noticed that the About the Author section describes "Andrew Collins", the author of TMITC, this way (I will request another correction): Andrew Collins was born in 1969 outside Philadelphia, grew up in Connecticut, and graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, in 1991. That same year he joined Fodor's staff and over the next two years edited or co-edited more than a dozen travel guides. In 1994 he conceived of and developed Fodor's Gay Guide to the USA, the first edition which published in 1996. He's worked as an editor or writer on more than 100 travel books and Collins writes a syndicated weekly travel column called "Out of Town," which appears on several Web sites, as well as in gay and lesbian newspapers nationwide. Presently he divides his time between New Mexico, Connecticut, and New Hampshire, and logs more than 40,000 miles annually driving across North America.
I know you've been working hard for years, but I had no idea you were actually living two lives. :)

Would that be Richard "Herrin"?

Most bookshops can't be arsed to abide by embargo dates and just put them out as soon as they get 'em.
Unless it's Harry Potter, in which case it becomes a hanging offence, or something.
Dammit.
You do realise that if I buy it now I won't be able to 'leave it' until we go on holidays this July ?
I am so delighted by this. It makes me feel like my life is worthwhile
Yay! I'm going to a bookshop at lunchtime to spend my birthday book tokens.
Sorry, I realise that this makes me sound like I'm 13.
Yay! I'm going to a bookshop at lunchtime to fondle my book.
Sorry, I realise that makes me sound like an author!
I'm sad to report that there were no early copies of the book at the WHSmith at Paddington.
Maybe it's so popular that it's already out of stock, or maybe (and more likely) WHSmith Paddington are just big spoilsports...
Will go and buy a copy soon. Looking forward to reading it!
(and ha ha! at the use of the erroneous 's'!)
None in the Smiths I just browsed in either. Seems you were lucky, Steve. Nothing like a staggered release.
The paranoia is already setting in. People are going to review it! Every author's nightmare.
Now that that's the third book out, Andrew, can we expect a film. Surely that is the next logical progression.
It must have sold out everywhere!!
I pre-ordered one from Amazon last week. No sign as yet...
As for reviews, heres one to be going on with:
" A tour-de-force! Collings certainly does get about a bit"
OK?
Of course I meant to say the erroneous 'g'. Of course I do not think you are really called Andrew Colling... Stupid me!
To be honest Andrew, if this book is anything like WDIAGW and HKIMN, you should have no problems with reviews.
Aw, I spent all my fun money on Cds this month, will have to wait until May. Looking forward to reading it too!

Ordered today from Play.com and it has been dispatched already
That's mine ordered too. Can't wait to get it Andrew. You going to be doing a signing tour?
I've seen it in Smiths Cardiff, on the end of an aisle, eye-level. No particular display, though.
