I was on the news today, oh boy

No, I wasn't at Kensington Palace, shedding a tear for a dead princess because she was like one of us, and I felt I knew her even though I didn't. I was on the news because Mark Kermode made the mistake of being on holiday again this week, so - having "been" him on Simon Mayo's show on Five Live last Friday, I was drafted in to "be" him on News 24 this afternoon. It was, I have to admit, quite thrilling to be in the middle of the BBC newsroom. I've never been in there before. All those screens and monitors and people running around clutching important pieces of paper and people on phones. (I am, officially, easily impressed, but life would be intolerable otherwise, I think.) And in the middle of it, me in a brown shirt (didn't want to go all black this time), softened and de-shined with makeup, waiting two hours to go on. Why they needed me there two hours before I don't know. Probably didn't trust me to turn up, being the new boy. Anyway, it's on the BBC News Player here, as are all the previous ones ever, I think. That's what we pay our licence fee for!

A polished performance, well delivered. Well done. (You look small though!)

Good to see the return of 'Rumblefish', which I loved in the 80's. I'm scared to watch it now though in case it doesn't measure up..

Very well done. I raised a glass to you in the Brampton Halt afterwards.

Next time though, suggest you get them to change the caption to your name - the work of moments - and the least they could do. And, suggest also that you lift your chair seat up so that you are at eye level with the oppo; they should have done this for you.
Take a tip on chair politics from Siralan! (have a quiet word with your agent).

The main thing though, your presentation, pacing & knowledge was pitched just right I thought.

I was interested to see what Jamie Bell's movie was like as we watched B.E. again the other week and wondered how he was doing. Very well, it seems.

Great performance, Andrew. You were swinging a bit in your chair though at the start!

Excellent work Andrew. I'm just back from seeing Hallam Foe and it was very good.

thank goodness there wasn't a 'Guy Kewney'-style mixup! (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Goma)

My thought was you looked small too Andrew. I enjoy your reviews though. I actually make a point of listening to Simon Mayo when you are on. I like Mark generally but get irritated when he goes on and on about films like Transformers not having a decent script like we didn't know it already.

I'm glad it wasn't me that had to lug those massive film posters in and out exactly on cue.

Yes, if Mark goes on holiday again, I'll work on that swivel chair technique. And be a bit bigger.

To be honest, Andrew, I thought the chair swivelling was rather sweet! One of the many things I like about you is that whilst you are very professional, you also have that lovely undercurrent of being really, really excited to be doing what you are doing; it is very engaging.

Sure you were great Andrew. I'm not a Kermode fan - his hatred of Star Wars and love of dodgy horror are frankly perverse.
The word verification entry here is "Iraqs". Cool, eh?
