At last: Richard Herring and I have finally made good on our promise and recorded a
podcast. You can listen to it, or download it, via the British Sitcom Guide website. It's
here. We recorded it at Richard's house this afternoon. It's 43 minutes long, and because we are technological idiots, we were initially unable to send the file to our friend Mark at the British Sitcom Guide, who had offered very kindly to host the podcast for us - so we had to create a page on iWeb, which subsequently crashed due to sudden demand! We will learn how to reduce the size of the file before the next podcast. (We recorded it on GarageBand on Richard's laptop, using the built-in mic, but the quality seems fine.) We hope you enjoy the podcast. Let me know what you think of it. (Is it too long?) It covers a lot of topical ground, including Britney Spears, David Beckham's 99 caps and Woolworth's "Lolita" range of children's bedroom furniture. I have just listened to it on iTunes by clicking on the subscribe link on the British Sitcom Guide download page, which is a thrill. We have submitted it to iTunes, but I think they have to check it before it comes up like Russell Brand's and Russell Howard's.

Good old Apple, I clicked on the subscribe button on Richard's website and suddenly there it was downloading into iTunes. Isn't technology wonderful.
if you right-click the file in itunes and choose "convert selection to mp3", it will, er, convert it to mp3.
argh, bandwidth exceeded!
if you have nowhere else to put it for now, you could try www.rapidshare.com
the website seems to have collapsed under the weight of people's eagerness to download...hopefully it will be back soon.

It's all sorted now (see: new link quoted above). It's quite cool that our original page crashed though!
I had no probs downloading from itunes, looking forward to the next one!
Downloaded the podcast, but for some reason i-Tunes have added it to my Music list rather than my podcasts. Am I an idiot? Or have I done something wrong. Or indeed all of the above? I-tunes won't let me subscribe. Help. Please.
Is the extra 'G' in your surname on the pod cast page on purpose Andrew?
Martyn & Clur Gnawfowlt
Teething troubles, Gari! Sorry about that. When I clicked on "subscribe" it automatically did just that, and downloaded it to my podcasts folder. I'm pretty sure you're not being an idiot. We have actually sent the podcast to iTunes, but as I say, they have to check it before it becomes available like all the other ones. Fingers crossed.
And as for the erroneous "G" in my name, it's an old joke of Richard's that he thinks Collings is my name, so in order to redress the balance, I took the "G" from his surname for the name of our new double act. (We didn't want to be confused with either Lee & Herring or Collins & Maconie.)
'Tower of hats' ha ha.
I thought it was great & a pretty listenable-to length.
Good to hear you together again!
Note to whoever just left an anonymous comment about the podcast: thank you. But please can you post it again with a name attached, as anonymous posts are disallowed, as stated above the Comments form. I must stick to house rules!
Hello. Just finished listening to the podcast and it was ace. More pretty please.
Managed to sort the music/podcast issue. Hurrah! So now you and Richard Keith Herring take your rightful place alongside Mark Kermode, Simon Mayo and the John Pienaar Polital Review on my i-Pod. The journey home on the No.45 bus will be much improved. The new Newman and Baddiel, that's you that is.
Excellent podcast - made me realise how much I miss the old Sunday show on 6 :-(
That was an excellent way to spend forty minutes, and made me quite nostalgic for the old Sunday afternoon radio show. Thanks Andrew and Richard - when are you doing the next one?
Next podcast Friday February 15.
Mark Kermode has a podcast?
*searches*
Excellent stuff - this will go alongside my archived Ricky Gervais, Adam & Joe and Russell Brand poddies.
Just listened to the podcast - on my trusty 'earpod' - and very enjoyable it was too. My only criticism is that it wasn't long enough! How's about doing a whole hour?
I was mightily impressed at how quickly you got round to producing it. One moment you're suggesting the idea, the next moment you've DONE it. Applause!
Out of interest, can you tell us how popular it's been so far? Being a fan of facts and figures, I'd be intrigued to know how the download figures compare with, say, the number of blog readers you get, and with your own expectations. If you wanted to tell us, that is (no problem if not, obviously).
Roll on Podcast No.2!
No idea of figures thus far. I'll look into it, if I can.
I have syndicated your podcast feed for LiveJournal, 'cause I'm a geek, innit.
It's here if you want to plug it to LJ-users.

ac: listened to the podcast as intended on the train. Two things well done it was loud enough to here! Also it passed the made me look like "grinning bafoon to all the my fellow commuters test" So have a laugh and get a seat to yourself bargain!
good podcast - look forward to more. I agree with the "earpod" comment and remember cringing at a soap (might have been Corrie) ten years or so ago when someone mentioned "acid bath parties".
