No podcast this Friday

Because Richard will be in Edinburgh and I will be in Northampton on Friday, we shall be recording the 10th Collings & Herrin Podcast on Monday. Be patient. (Oh, and I've tried to make the proper microphones work again, using the clear and helpful advice that Mr Angry led me to, but they still don't work. I'm just warning you: the sound quality will be as it has always been.) Back to normal service next Friday, so just think, you'll be able to listen to two new podcasts within five days!

Just a thought, but is it possible there's a volume control in your operating system that has the microphone socket set to mute? Could it be you just need to untick a box to unmute the mics and get everything going?
Either way, loving the podcasts, internal mics and all.
Shame! I was looking forward to to listening during a long flight on Saturday. Still, I've recorded two episodes of Banter (using the Freecorder toolbar - records in MP3 format from the BBC radio player in real-time),and have kept podcast 9 back so it's not all bad. No broadband where I'm going so lots of catching up when I'm back...
Andrew... not sure if this will help, but if you have a few minutes, it's worth a shot.
Try using Audacity (free software) when recording.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
And also, to improve the sound quality, maybe try compressing the audio file you're putting in Garageband, if that's possible in GBand - I tend to use Logic Express which is an advanced version of GB. Compression will reduce background noise and improve the sound quality.
Having said that, the sound quality isn't that big an issue for me. I love lo fi.
Dave - any chance I could get hold of those Banters you've recorded?
Ah.
I was under the mistaken impression that you had two natively USB mics to plug directly into your Macbook (which is how I prepare my podcasts).
Is there anyway of testing the mics without iMic?
You could switch to doing this broadcast on a CB radio. Anyone with CB (lorry drivers, those still living with their parents age 40, Kris Kristofferson) would be able to hear you, AND you get to invent Convoy handles for yourselves.
swineshead - I've got a few banters from this series and a previous one if you want them?
To Swineshead: Happy to oblige once I'm back from my trip - may have some older episodes lurking in my recycle bin too. How do I send then to you? We can't really exchange email addresses here, and I can't see any contact details for you on your website...
On the Banter subject, a lady I forget the name of had a good story about falling out of a door on last night's show. It sounded like her off of that space thing with him off of Sean of the Dead in it. She's in the Lee doo-dah show that's on BBC1 with Jeremy Vine's brother in it.
Anyway, it was a very funny story.
BPP -- RE: BANTER -- The lady who fell out of the door of a loo on a train was Miranda Hart!
Dave & Butterdale - if you'd be so kind as to email me at only.mr.me at googlemail.com then I'll think up a genius plan to get those files from you to me. If you have time to.
Much obliged!
"It sounded like her off of that space thing with him off of Sean of the Dead in it."
It was Miranda Hart. She wasn't in Spaced, but she was in that sitcom on BBC1 co-written by someone off the Radio Times. Alison Graham, I think.
It may be worth pointing out that Swineshead is (I assume) talking about applying audio compression to the file (essentially making it louder and more even in volume) rather than compressing the audio file (making the file smaller). The former is likely to improve the sound, while the latter won't. Last week's podcast had double the data rate (i.e lower compression). The file was twice as big but it sounded significantly better.
Happy anniversary you heathens!
What will you be doing to celebrate double figures?
Hi swineshead
I uploaded them onto rapidshare, though that was probably the quickest way

Joe Cornish has just admitted he checks the podcast chart twice a day, and is disappointed that "Adam and Joe" have dropped out of the top ten. They're quite feisty, and obvious rivals to you and the H. I think you should stir it up a bit.
Miranda Hart was in Hyperdrive, which is a "space thing" and does co-star Nick Frost, who was in Shaun Of The Dead. Anyway, it was she. And a very funny story.
Can I just, through the medium of blogger, thank Butterdale Lemons for his, or her links. I am heading off on holiday tomorrow, and the 8 episodes of Banter have been downloaded and will provide many, well 4, hours of entertainment.
Obviously Thanks to you and Herrin and the others as well.
More. Please.
Butterdale Lemons - you are a superstar (if these come out on CD I promise to buy them, AC)
And the Dave who isn't some other Dave - yep - I meant audio compression, not making the file tiny wee. I should've pointed that out, perhaps...
LOL - good to see trading of pirated recordings taking place in AC's (moderated) blog comments.
Though, of course we've already paid for the shows via a licence fee, and the BBC is progressive enough to be (sort of) leading the way with having shows available for download. Shame they don't have more comedy shows available as podcasts though.
(BTW UKNova is a good source of new and classic radio shows. As is radioarchive.cc)
Where is it? Where is it? *rocks back and forth*
Recorded, converted, on the way. (See: new entry above.)
