Police Arrest Batman
In the twenty-third Collings & Herrin podcast, in light of Radovan Karadzic's arrest for being an acupuncturist, we discuss the amazing disguise possibilities of growing a beard, Christian Bale getting bail, the key differences between a Milton Keynes NCP call centre operator and a concentration camp guard, and conduct a calm, reasoned, evidence-based debate about homeopathy. We also reveal details of the first ever live podcast with an audience in Edinburgh. It takes place on Wednesday August 6, at 10.30am, at the Underbelly. A one-off opportunity to be in the background of an actual podcast, and perhaps talk on it, it is free* to attend, but you have to reserve tickets. Don't reserve them and not turn up, that would be cruel. All details here. We're very excited about it. (We recorded two podcasts today; number 24, which has an air of hysteria about it that could go either way, will be up in the usual place next Friday, August 1, by which time Richard and I will be in different cities. See how hard we work for you, and still the Cobra Pubcast and the French Maids are higher than us in the iTunes charts. You are so ungrateful.)* Sorry, just discovered there is an 80p handling charge and you have to reserve at least two tickets (I assume this is because the Underbelly can't take less than £1 per automated transaction). Thanks to Jason for pointing this out. That's still a bargain. We could have charged more, but we declined in the spirit of the podcast.

Part way through it now. love the bit where you believed RH's testicles story. In my manor we call believing something which is obviously a joke a 'chin'. So Richard 'chinned' you.
Richard makes good points. Nothing has ever been built on the foundations of faith without proof.
Hi Andrew - unless it is my computer - the underbelly site for the morning podcast seems not to be working - just doesn't checkout...? Will be phoning tomorrow to book... Looking forward to it!
James
By all means try the trusty phone, James. Don't worry - you'll get your tickets! (As I've just discovered, there is an 80p per ticket handling charge for credit card bookings on the website. That can't apply if you phone. Let me know. We want this to be as easy as possible, and it's really good of the Underbelly to sort us out.)
Ooh! I've got my tickets. Should be a right old laugh. See you there.
Doug
Andrew, did you ask for a haircut that would last until post-Edinburgh?
According to QI and the infallible Wikipedia Hitler wasn't actually a vegetarian. He did primarily follow a vegetarian diet, but did on occassion, eat meat.
I'm sure that's the sort of trivial fact Michael Caine collects.
Andrew, I'm not sure what the problem is, but for some reason i-Tunes will not download this week's podcast at all. In fact the first time Itried last night, I was slightly concerned to see my entire i-Tunes library delete itself. I have since spent some hours re-installing everything, but podcast 23 has failed to join. Any ideas what happened?
No idea what happened there, Gari. My iTunes automatically loaded up number 23 within about an hour of it being made available. And it's right there now in the list, as usual.
Drucifer: indeed, the haircut is designed to see me through three Mark Kermodes, one Edinburgh and a holiday. (I'm not sure if you were being facetious, but you are right!)
Another thoroughly enjoyable hour of mirth. Ta, chaps.
Bit sad you're doing your Edinburgh thing three days before I get there, though. Never mind.
I also notice you are 'Podcast of the Week' in The Times' The Knowledge supplement. Jolly well done.
Thanks for that, Rose. I shall go out and buy a copy right now.
It would be even sadder if we were recording the podcast three days later, though, as I wouldn't be in Edinburgh.
First time I've listened to your podcast (no prizes for guessing why!)
Good stuff. I've been trying to find something new to listen to at the gym (music is no good. i get too bored) and I think these might just do the trick!
Enjoyed the hom/alt med discussion.
all sorted Andrew - phoned now have my free ticket waiting for me...
Re: Masterchef - so pleased Peters didn't win! Such a smug git.
Looking forward to the 6th.
James
What's the plan for the 6th, then? Are we all going to be huddled around your MacBooks? :-)
Doug
We will definitely be recording it, as usual, on my MacBook. The idea is to make it as "normal" as possible, except with anywhere between 1 and 185 people in the same room (depending on ticket sales). It will all go out on the podcast, no editing, so whatever happens in that room becomes that week's podcast. We'll take questions from the floor, I think, but it's the uncertainty that makes it exciting. We'll definitely take some pictures of the audience to put on our websites.
It should be great fun. I guess with it being at half-ten in the morning, you shouldn't have to reckon with any of the audience coming in roaring drunk! Mind you, I'd quite like to see how Richard deals with hecklers.
I don't think Rich picked up on your quotations from "Antmusic".
You're right, Martin, and I gave him two chances!
Doug, maybe we'll all go for a boozy lunch afterwards, all 187 (or 3) of us. (Although Richard and I will be recording a second podcast, in private, back at the flat, in the afternoon, so it will see us through two Fridays.)
Maybe the best podcast yet..? Just wanted to say thanks, I really enjoy them and can't wait for each new one. I will be up at the festival at some point soon but unfortunately after you've done your live podcast...
So the other day I was idly flicking through the outer reaches of my freeview channels when I saw that 'Goodnight Sweetheart' was on ITV3. I thought I might watch it, thanks to Richard's recommendation, but then I noticed that a programme called 'Lionman' was being shown at the same time on Sky3. I didn't know which one to go for. So I settled for an old episode of Mr Bean.

Stuart
