I am on holiday. Richard is still in Edinburgh. We recorded
Collings & Herrin Podcast Number 26 last Wednesday when I was up there for the live one. We recorded it directly afterwards and were somewhat sluggish, mainly due to the Tempting Tatties we had just eaten. However, we love you, so we didn't want you to have to go through a whole week without the sound of two grown men rambling for under an hour. Luckily, I had just finished Jon Gaunt's autobiography,
Undaunted, and was able to read aloud from it, Radio 4's
Book Of The Week style. I actually have a new found respect for him, if not his strident but flawed views on fox hunting, having read about his up-and-down life, and discovered that he really did give Richard Herring his big break by putting him on at his Coventry comedy club.
So, number 26 will l appear in the usual place today, on August 15. [I auto-published this - let's hope it works.]
Then it's an official week off. You owe us that. We shall return on August 28, full of beans.

I wonder if Dave Pearce got dropped from Radio 1 because they'd heard a whisper that his real age was about to be revealed...
Fellow Collings & Herrinites, as Andrew is away I'm sure our great & glorious oat-free leader would want me to tell you to go over to The 'Watch With Mothers' TV review site (link here on the right hand side, 7th one down)to read my marvelous review of Maestro -
BBC2's new reality show about learning to conduct an orchestra.
I feel sure cultural-elite types like yourselves will enjoy this sort of thing.
Also, I should point out that I was at the Edinburgh podcast and so know where you all live. Yes, I am looking at YOU!

It may have been said already, but the school photo of you in the latest Word* bears an uncanny resemblance to the photo of your colleague Richard on the posters for the headmaster's son.
*ELO - Bloody hell! - must be a right of passage for respectable schoolboys of a certain age. Out of the Blue was my first proper album soon to be usurped in quick succession by metal, prog and The Smiths. Perhaps more Maconie than Collings but from the same kick-off point.
Here's an answer for the Six Degrees of Wikipedia game, it won't be the shortest, but it is quite apt:
Argentina Brunetti
Radio
List of radio broadcasters who also do podcasting
6 Music
Andrew Collins
Eastenders
EastEnders in popular culture
Cagoule
Richard's game could be called Rikipedia. Actually, that sounds more like an unhealthy sexual interest in Mr Herring.
Could you start talking about Chris Moyles and Sarah Kennedy on the podcast, with a bit of luck you'll end their radio careers too.
how can you say the armstrong and miller podcast wasnt funny andrew. that cat-chagoogoo stuff was great.

Never got that far with it, Suzy!
First of all, long time Lee and Herring fan here. I've listened to the podcast from day 1. Collins: you don't get the respect you deserve for Lion Man.
I've got to agree with your assessment of Miller and Armstrong. I listened to about 20 minutes of the Dark Knight one but they lost me. I've got no inclination to listen to the remainder.
I wanted to ask you Andrew: as you often stand in for Mark Kermode, does that mean you watch every film released or do you only watch the ones that you need to review for each show. Also: why don't you see them for free? I've heard it mentioned a few times that you pay. Finally, did you see Frank Darabont's "The Mist" -- film of the year so far in my opinion.

JerryvonKramer
PS. This message was a lot drier than I intended, please feel free to ignore it!

Hi
Just listened to number 26. Thanks for the name-check at the end Andrew - it came as a bit of a surprise! You're right though, as I am a nice guy! :-)
Cheers
Doug
Latecomer to this one, but I'd just like to say I thought the Maris Piper gag deserved more. I think Mr. Herrin was just jealous he hadn't thought of it...
OK here goes,
So, we start with Argintina Brunetti
1)Quincey M.E.
2)Columbo
3)Rain coat
4)Cagoule
not sure if it's the shortest, but it's not bad.

John Gaunt is a borderline racist and even if he plays upon his right wing opinions to get listeners to his Talksport show he should be ashamed of his Enoch Powell style rantings.
I'm surprised you would choose to read such baloney out of all the the great books out there.
I hope you were given it free.
I can only assume you haven't heard our podcasts, Dara.
This will be a boring post, not as boring as oat milk, but pretty boring.
There was a study done by someone at my alma mater, Trinity College Dublin, on 6 degrees of wikipedia.

You can put in the articles you want to link and it finds the shortest path between them.
Usually it goes through a year or a date which is stupid, but here are some I put in:
