We will fall again

Look, as we do all too regularly, at the iTunes audio comedy podcast charts, and see our highest ever position: number 9, above Armstrong & Miller. (We are even at 16 in the iTunes audio and video podcast comedy charts, which, again, is a new peak.) Having spent months in the wilderness, we are, briefly, back.

16 or 9? It looks like 9 in that screenshot.
Nooo! As Billy Joel said, 'We love you just the way you are'.
Well done on your peak performance.
9 in the audio comedy podcast charts [pictured], and 16 in the comedy podcast charts, which includes some video podcasts of violent cartoon characters and sexy French maids.
I read somewhere that the iTunes podcast charts are calculated on new subscriptions and not on actual downloads.
So if you asked every one of the 15 thousand or so people that listen to your podcast to go into iTunes, unsubscribe and then subscribe again (and maybe do that a few times) your numbers 'should' increase and you should rapidly go up the charts.
This also means that new podcasts or podcasts with a new marketing push will be higher in the charts than older ones.
If it goes any higher it might come to the attention of the Mail, and then there'll be trouble!! If people on the Word site are going to give it a listen this week maybe there should be extra swearing?!
With regards to the swearing; I'm more than happy for Mr 'Herrin' to do it, but it somehow seems wrong coming from yourself (god knows why).
I'm sure you didn't do it anywhere near as much in the earlier 'episodes' and it's a more recent thing.
I suspect Richard's a bad influence on you.
I'm the person on the Word forum who said that *in my opinion* the occasional flat bit of the podcast could be judicious edited and who also made it clear that he had no expectation that you would accord his views any great weight.
Now I discover I'm being chided on your blog for it. I hope your podcast goes down below Danny Wallace. That'll teach you.
You don't swear enough in my opinion. Like a couple of choir boys on a Sunday school outing.
Congrats on the top ten placing. You deserve it cos the whole think is jus off the cuff and spontaneous and all the better for it.
Not "chided" BaldySlaphead, just marched through the streets on the back of a cart in order to be pelted with fruit by loyalists. It's the only jurisdiction I have!
Anyway, I have removed the offending passage for fear of misunderstanding. I want no chiding here.
Should anyone wish to read BaldySlaphead's comments in context (which is only proper), the Word forum thread is here. Fair?
Well I like it anyway, and surely that's all matters, right?
Mmmm... fruit!
If the iTunes chart really is based on new subscribers (and I've also read elsewhere that it is) then it's possibly the most meaningless chart available. Imagine if they did the same with television show rankings. Presumably one off documentaries on BBC4 would regularly see off Corrie and East Enders.
Mind you, if it's the only measure available I would be crowing about being in the top 10 as well - I'd also be claiming that it would be higher if based on actual listeners (who'd know?!).
Andrew, have you tried Googling Jon Gaunt? At the moment, the wikipedia result is most amusing.
I've got a screengrab here in case it gets changed:

I really tried to get into Armstrong and Miller because I like the stuff they do on telly, but just couldn't at all. You are miles better and totally deserve to be in the top 10 :-)
