Monkey

In the 64th Collings & Herrin Podcast, sponsored by the Absolut Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, even though it finished on May 17, we discuss in quite academic terms the miracle, or not, of human evolution, and the fact that we are all descended from 100 people who walked off Africa 70,000 years ago, including Adam and Eve, and Noah and his wife Nelly, who themselves were descendants of a monkey/lemur called Ida, recently dug up in 1983 and now featured in a Guardian poster. We also analyse the ex-Speaker's nickname, the morality of selling your virginity to a 45-year-old Italian businessman, the disappointment of Alfie, and we try not to swear or interrupt each other, in practice for being on the radio again.

Did you know that one of Noah's son's was called Ham and the other one had a much more sensible name Shem (I had a dog called Shem, so I know it's a sensible name). Therefore, it would seem that Noah was one of the first Celebrities to give his child a Silly foodie name and Bob Geldof and Ms. Paltrow were just jumping on the bandwagon.

Just some useless information Heat magazine overlooked;)

Claire (a rather sensible name)

I wish you'd discussed the MMR vaccine. Given the fact you didn't touch it I can guess what your respective opinions would be, and so I'd have enjoyed hearing Richard rip your opinions to shreds.

(Of course, it could be I who is judging without evidence here. You may have wanted to damn the press for preying on parents' uncertainty and guilt using poor, subsequently debunked research.)

I still have 11 mins of the podcast to go, so maybe you'll talk about it yet...

Richard and I had already discussed it before the podcast. It wasn't very funny.

On an entirely different topic - I see the stock photo of "some books" used on Newsnight the other week has cropped up again - see
hereTwo Collins classics given yet more exposure...

Who was it pointed out that Andrew largely gets photographed on these grabs with his face obscured?

Do you even see what you've wrought here?

'when you've finished and a little bit goes on your trousers...'

according to the men's health web site this was once known as 'the shilling sign' because of the shilling sized stain that often results....

..it's the third piece down, under 'how to stop dribbling' and the advice works!

Actually C & H are a bit like Ant an Dec in that C is always on the right and H is always the idiot on the left.

How about some variety for god's (or homeopathy's) sake!

Andrew - not listened to podcast yet, downloading as I type - but have you just had a hair cut? I like it - you look all young and lamb-like! Do I spot a hint of tan also...?

Now it is called the five penny stain. Although they mean the old-sized 5p coin so it's ridiculous really. Bring back old coinage I say. Old people can't cope with the new size anyway.

Yes, I noticed the tan too. Given that you hole yourself up at the British Library most of the week, I reckon that's a sunbed tan. You sly devil, you!

Watch out, Andrew. It's a slippery slope from here, mate. You'll be on the protein drinks next, trying to "pack on" a bit of muscle.

I have to say Helen that I saw Mr Collins on Tuesday (I was in the audience of the sitcom readthrough he is script editing 'Scum Also Rises') and I suspected a haircut too, and possibly a bit of working out as well - I have to say he was looking good.
I'll stop there before I start getting accused of stalking ;-)

I had a haircut two weeks ago. I have mentioned on the podcast that I go to the gym every day, but when you reach my age, I'm afraid you have to work much harder simply not to go to seed. I have never, nor would never, use a sunbed. However, I do tan easily. I have dark skin anyway. If I look tanned it's because I spend a lot of time walking through London and it's been sunny.

Nice to be so forensically scrutinised though. Is it any wonder I usually hide in the podcast photos!

I do occasionally enjoy a specially formulated protein drink, but it's a poncy nutritionally balanced one, not one aimed at bodybuilders.

Re: podcast 64. I believe I "came out" as a Christian on this blog some time ago, and I still listen to the podcast. I also still find "podcast Richard"'s complete lack of theological knowledge funny. (And this is from someone who saw Christ on a Bike so it's hardly a surprise any more.) Then again, I'm one of those wishy-washy Liberals who has bothered to actually think about my faith, rather than have someone tell me what I believe, so perhaps I'm not a useful representative sample...

I can understand how some people might find the podcast offensive - but that's so obviously their problem and not yours. For instance, I was a regular listener to Russell Brand's show, and heard the "Sachsgate" episode in context. And it never crossed my mind to complain about it, because in context it was very funny. And I was almost crying with laughter after your exchanges about the graffiti in the British Library, even though if you tried to tell someone later it would just sound peculiar.

Oh, and Noah actually had three sons. And I always thought Japheth was a much sillier name than the other two put together.

Hope we haven't embarrassed you Andrew - not my intention - its just that it amuses me that I originally got into the podcasts via being a fan of Richard's and its you who seems to grab my attention more now!

As I'm unfortunately not able to make Brighton on Thursday, might it be filmed? Am willing to pay good wonga for a DVD!

Ditto I hope I haven't embarrassed you Andrew either - there was no forensic scrutiny going on I promise! Please don't hide!

Can't sleep so I am listening to the podcasts. Only started listening about 10 days ago and am now on #62! Its a shame that i'm only going to have 1:06:35 of you per week from now on as you are both brilliant and bloody funny.
ps Judging by the photos of the recent gig I think you should be much more at the forefront of the pod pics, the gym and sunshine clearly agree with you!
