Spotted!

In the 62nd Collings & Herrin podcast, one of the most boring we have ever recorded which means it will probably be the most popular, we take just about every ideological position under the sun on such complex issues as Gurkha justice, Nazism, bra size, MPs' expenses, the British position in India, the possibly fictional "ugly" man with pitted skin and Hugh Cornwell's hairstyle suddenly accused of having something to do with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the futuristic nature of an information carrier called "a disc", the wisdom or otherwise of using a cartoon of a keyboard key for the word "by" in byline credits in the Daily Mirror (a subject that only really animates one of us - guess which one?), and the magical "optical illusion" of glass between a child and a tiger in a zoo.

Please could you settle an argument? My husband thinks that it is you doing a voiceover on the current "Homebase" ad; I have told him I am sure that it is not, but he is adamant! Please can you let me know one way or the other?! Thanks!

At first glance, I thought that was Madeleine McCann about to be eaten by the tiger. And then I thought that even for a photoshop gag that might be a bit much.

I've just been writing about bra sizes too. Have a look here, if you like: http://jb73.blogspot.com/

Up to about 50 minutes that was pretty good, and even then you perked up near the end.

I like the mirror-like quality of that pic. Herrin looks like a lion, you look a bit like Pootle flump, the small child looks like she'd like Pootle flump, and then there's another big cat. This is a good thing. I think.

Can I be a lone voice and say I love ALL the podcasts. Even the shit ones!
Although I have just listened to Brassneck by The Wedding Present 12 times, so may not be the best judge of these type of things.
If you ever stopped, I for one would be unhappy.

Richard Herring should really watch Still Game. A gem of a sit-com in my book.

Not being Scottish is a feeble excuse, I am not jewish or from New York but I still watch Seinfeld.

Enjoyed the pod/bumcast neverless.

Please, if you mention Bowie, remember it's obligatory to then do Bowie impressions. This is part of the podcast charter.

And I think audio clips of listeners' wives would be a great new segment and a good use for the AudioBoo service (for those who have iPhones). Here is a clip of my wife spread eagled on a rock by a babbling brook:

Bowie definitely WAS stabbed by a boy with a compass: he talked about it Q's Cash For Questions a few years ago (in 2000). Not sure if you were still the editor then.

I was the editor 1995-97. If Bowie was stabbed with a compass, it's not the injury that caused his eyes to "go funny" (one of the pupils is permanently dilated, they're not actually different colours). He was punched in the eye by George Underwood when he was 14, I think, and he ended up in hospital, having two operations, and his eyes were permanently altered as a result. If you can find the compass story anywhere, I'd be interested to read it.

Ah, I see even Wikipedia goes with the ring story. Hmm. Well, I can't find the article, but a reader asks him he'd say to the boy who hit him "with a compass" and Bowie picks up the story.

I think there's some confusion about the compass/ring thing. Looking around, I'd say you're right. Sorry! (*blushes*).

Hey, I'm only going by the story I've read in a number of Bowie biographies. We might all be right! (I do know that he stayed friends with George Underwood, who designed a couple of his record sleeves.)

Thinking about it, I suppose a ring would make more sens. I mean, a compass? He'd be lucky to an eye left!

I have children and I went to public school, and I think the podcast's hilarious. So there.

Interesting drift into web search mode at the end there! You can almost hear your brains ticking over, great radio that's not radio!
