Garlic bread

In the third of our live, daily podcasts from the Underbelly in Edinburgh, we attempt to build bridges with our audience by testing their memory of key cultural signifiers (well, one bloke in the front row anyway, who had the memory of Mr Memory out of The 39 Steps); we also discuss the unfolding tragedy of Kerry Katona, the unfolding mystery of South African "hermathlete" Caster Semenya, the incredible journeys of a goldfish called Pooh and a giant tortoise called Zeus, and the majesty of Peter Key. We also experience what it's like when Richard is on fire, while remaining almost-lucratively sponsored by Profanity App. I feel we should apologise to the proprietor of the Tempting Tattie, was sadly overworked when we took the audience to his emporium after the show, as he had no other staff behind the counter. This was a very strange podcast, with many unfunny longueurs, but the audience were particularly supportive and patient. Which is why I am picturing the whole front row.

(And thanks to unofficial photographer Gordon Hodgson for the two pics at the top.)

Ooh - a speedy post-podcast post Mr Collins!

Really enjoyed the show - even being mocked by your colleague for my lack of hair. The tatty was indeed tempting and it was good to hear your report of Edwyn Collins successful show on the way there....

Enjoy the rest of your Festival!

Cheers
John (Mr Baldy in His Forties)

On walking out, a girl complained a) that Richard had go on about Kit Williams for too long saying "I wanted to tell him to move on..." and b) that she didn't remember any of the references. Good to know she was expecting a more relevant documentary experience and that the podcast-attending public's standards remain high.

I was born in the early 80s, but in another country across the Atlantic, so felt nationally stigmatised against and patronised.

I will be cancelling my subscription to the podcast forthwith.

P.s. the current 2009 Edinburgh Collings and Herrin podcast rankings are as follows:

1. Wednesday
2. Friday
3. Thursday

Chivalry is not dead as Gordon and I proved yesterday by coming to the defense of the idiot girl with double D's (which personally I prefer to double A's). I suppose calling us a pair of fucking twats is as much of an apology as one can expect, I'm sure he means it in a wonderful ironic affectionate like Nathan 'twatface' Jay.

Hi Andrew. I'm really enjoying your Edinburgh shows. You and Richard are on fine form! I've just listened to them all in one go and you DID use the term Hermaphalete when first describing that intriguing sports lady/gent! You can hold your head up high during tomorrow's podcast, confident in your unscripted prowess! Keep up the good work!

I'd never heard of Kit Williams before either, I assumed he was an old dead black yank jazz soul singer for some reason. I don't think C&H were deliberately being nationally stigmatizing and patronizing on purpose, but I can see how it came across that way.

I was offended about the disgraceful Baldist comments from Herring claiming that baldness was due to too much testosterone meaning that Bald men had too much semen on their heads. There is no scientific evidence to prove that sperm is can remove hairs otherwise ladies could use it on their legs and bikini lines, but they don't to my knowledge.

As a balding man I find it very cruel when people make fun of this traumatic disorder. I only hope Herring goes bald so he can know the pain of looking in the mirror every day to more tragic loss of youth and happiness, only to get mocked and ridiculed by so called friends and family. Maybe that could teach him some compassion and humility for his fellow man if he is capable of it at all, the heartless bastard.

It was very nice to meet you in person Mr Collins and thanks for signing our friend Donny's copy of 'WDIAGR'. Wish we could have afforded to come to the whole week's podcasts even though those that did were starting to show signs of battle fatigue. Here's wishing you and Herrin a successful storming of Tempting Tatty today.
